Sesame Street Live
Sesame Street Live is a touring stage show based on the Sesame Street television program for children. The shows all have original songs and music scores, with some old favorites from the television show mixed in, as well as professional dancers who are costumed and perform the parts of the characters. Sesame Street Live is a 90-minute musical show with a charming soundtrack, dazzling lights, and lively choreography.
Sesame Street Live opened in 1980 and has been touring continuously since then. It recently completed its 100th tour. Reflecting the popularity as well as the universality of Sesame Street and its characters, the touring show has been performed in arenas and theatres not only in the United States, but around the world in countries as varied as Dubai, Singapore, and Germany. Over 25 completely different Sesame Street Live touring shows have been created since 1980. Old and new shows are rotated throughout the tour to keep the experience fresh for fans. Since the audience is constantly changing as children grow up, shows are frequently removed from the rotation for awhile, then updated, revived and returned to tour again.
Sesame Street Live is now produced as three of four different tours, each doing a different show with its own soundtrack, characters, scenery, and plot. The current Sesame Street Live tour has three new shows:
1-2-3 Imagine with Elmo and Friends is a high-energy musical that has the audience singing and dancing with Big Bird, Abby Cadabby, and Elmo. It’s a fun adventure story that also teaches children the power of imagination to let them be anyone, go anywhere, and do anything.
Elmo’s Green Thumb has Elmo searching for a new home for Sunny, his sunflower. All of Elmo’s friends help him look for the perfect place where Sunny can grow best. With dancing ladybugs and grouchy beetles, children learn the importance of patience, being brave, and valuing all creatures in our ecosystem.
When Elmo Grows Up introduces Abby Cadabby who joins Elmo and his friends to ask, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” Children learn that possibilities are endless if they believe in themselves and are willing to try.
Sesame Street Live, although staged for children ages 1 to 6, is an experience to be shared and enjoyed by the whole family. It offers a unique musical opportunity to introduce a child to the joy of live performances on the stage.
